Bikers USA posted the above banner after the 2006 kickstart weekend for Myrtle Beach Bike Week, when 6 motorcycle riders had already been killed. We asked people to spread the word to tell other bikers to please ride safely and ride defensively. Most of the accidents had been caused by negligent cage drivers, but as you know, you can exercise much more caution in order to survive. Perhaps everyone was caught off guard by the change in the traffic patterns which the city instituted in 2006 in order to avoid the continuation of a lawsuit by the NAACP. Obviously, both drivers and riders need to take their time when making a turn and at intersections. Thank you to the riders who helped spread the word about increasing their defensive riding due to the abundance of fools in cages.

TRAGIC START AT MYRTLE BEACH BIKE WEEK. 3 DEATHS ATTRIBUTED TO CAGE DRIVERS FAILING TO YIELD ON OPENING SATURDAY. TOTAL FALLEN RIDERS ALREADY AT 6 BEFORE THE WEEKEND BEGINS, WITH 5 DUE TO NEGLIGENT CAGE DRIVERS.

Four of the five fatal accidents which claimed the lives of six motorcycle riders involved automobiles, with drivers of automobiles at fault. All five accidents were failure to yield.
Even if you see them looking right at you, don’t assume they see you. If it even looks like they could try and take a left, beware. Assume they are IDIOTS, and are going to try and hit you. Your job is to not let them.

FAREWELL FALLEN BIKERS.
Sixth Fatality: Name not yet released. Tennessee plates.
John Padgett, 27, Greensboro NC -
   John, with wife Sienna as passenger. Monday. Took a quick left, pulled into path of other motorcycles. Head-on. John died in the hospital on Tuesday. Other motorcyclists not at fault.
Sienna Padgett, Greensboro NC - passenger. Died instantly at the scene.
Three seperate fatal accidents Saturday, May 13th. All appear the fault of automobile drivers.
Louis Greco Jr., 35, Jersey City, NJ.
   Car moving in opposite direction took a left turn.
Samuel Bingham, 25, Juneau AK, (stationed at Fort Bragg).
   Driver of station wagon cited for disregarding a stop sign.
Jerry Sullivan, 54, Kershaw SC.
   Vehicle (presumed to be a car) pulled in front of him. Driver cited with failure to yield.

	Sunday, May 21, 2006 Wadesboro, SC 4th Annual BBQ FOR BIKERS On Sunday, May 21st, from 10:00 to 5:00,at the Anson County Farmer's Market on hwy 52, Wade Christian Fellowship will be providing coffee, drinks, gifts, a free chicken BBQ plate for all bikers, and a place to rest, stretch and talk. We will also have a live band this year!! We invite all motorcyclists to come join us and celebrate a great end to bike week 2006! Plenty of trailer parking available. Clean rest rooms. Myrtle Beach Bike Week History: It’s hard to believe the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally started 65 years ago. Think about what kind of motorcycles they had back then. The newest motorcycle there was a 1940!! Harleys, Indians and maybe some british bikes. No Japanese ripoffs. Suicide clutch and shifter, with everything kickstart. A biker would have to wrench and since there weren’t many dealers they would have to be pretty inventive if anything broke. In 1940, a Harley-Davidson WLDR won the Daytona 200, and that was the first year of the FL series. Nice pic at the H-D site. The bikini hadn’t been invented. Of course, tatoos had been around since about 3300 BC. In 1940, the population of Myrtle Beach was only 1597. Motorcycles, parts, t-shirts, jeans, boots, and jackets were all made in the USA keeping Americans employed from coast to coast. The Nazis were on a rampage in Europe. The Japanese had not yet attacked Pearl Harbor.

BIKERS USA is growing fast and furious, and tripling its’ visitors every two or three months. It wasn’t so long ago that the USA events for each state were added, then Canadian Bikers, European Bikers, and Australian Bikers sections were added. It now has a great deal to sell Used Harleys at Hawg Used Harley. At last count, there were over 1900 used Harley-Davidson motorcycles and custom choppers listed. $40 to list your bike. I’ve added new articles. I’m working biker rights issues and veterans issues because we all need to do our share. BIKERS USA will be doing events coverage in 2005. Fun times ahead. Bike Week information has been added. The latest thing is the beginnings of an extensive Bikers Directory and Motorcycle Directory with an easy to use ADD URL interface. BIKERS USA has had a terrific Womens Motorcycle Club page for several months, and just added a Womens Motorcycle Racing page.. The new directory already has all flavors of Motorcycle Clubs, Riding Clubs, and Associations and will be grown daily. After that, there will be a commercial section for such things as motorcycle manufacturers information, authorized dealers, unauthorized dealers, aftermarket parts, accessories, motorcycle apparel, new products, and biker friendly accomodations, bars, and nightspots.

Laconia Rally	If you pitch a tent like I usually do: Weirs Beach Campgrounds. Note: Everyone says camping at the Drive-In is best. That is bogus! There is much better camping in the area. Even Gunstock is better, but they want an outrageous 5 night minimum. Definitely, chill out in Weirs Beach on Saturday night. My favorite Hotel is in the little town of Lincoln NH (my exact favorite is secret, sorry). For hotels closest to both the races in Loudon and Weirs Beach, choose Loudon, Concord,or Tilton. On the way from NY and CT, stop off at Sturbridge Village on Thursday 6/15. On Sunday 6/18, if you’re heading back to Boston, stop at Hampton Beach and spend Sunday evening in Hampton NH, Seabrook NH, or Salisbury MA.
Sturgis Rally	Campgrounds are definitely the best. For those who want a hotel, if I weren’t staying in Sturgis, I would choose Deadwood.
