The 59th Annual Hollister Independence Rally
in Hollister CA was “disallowed” by the town. Some diehard bikers rode through anyhow. In 2007, there is a rally which is after the traditional dates.

The 1st Annual Hollister “We Used to Demand Independence” Rally?

So far, there is word that there will be a Hollister Rally, but it is not named Hollister Independence Rally, and it does not happen on the weekend prior to the 4th of July. Since it does not appear to be the official Hollister Independence Rally, it is possible that tradition may give way to civic pressure unless we ride to Hollister anyhow. It will be interesting to see if bikers will want this new rally, which is scheduled for after the 4th of July. I hear it’s called the Hollister Motorcycle Rally. As for me, I like tradition, but I’ll tell you what: Most of it is going to be up to California Bikers and they’ve been really void of motorcycle rallies in the land of OVER-REGULATION.

If Hollister Motorcycle Rally, after the 4th, in 2007 wants to try and claim itself as the 60th Hollister Motorcycle Rally, I don’t know how this is going to sit with the people who have ridden through every year before the 4th, as the Annual Hollister Independence Rally. I’m hoping that Bikers will attend and love the new rally and treat it as their own. Still, there is a nagging question I just have to ask.

Is Independence Dead in California? It is such a shame. California used to be the mecca for bikers. Then helmet laws messed everyone up so bad that lots of them quit riding rather than be forced to wear a helmet. Then the state started imposing regulations about custom motorcycles. California is not the mecca it once was. Florida, Texas, Arizona, and South Carolina are the best places now. California should be making billions from motorcycle rallies and doesn’t really have any! The Love Ride, a one day ride from Glendale to Castaic Lake, is nice, but it’s nothing compared to Daytona, Myrtle, Laconia, and Sturgis. It’s nothing compared to the Rot Rally and Lonestar Rally. California bikers want better rallies! Motorcycles would be so much better to relieve traffic congestion and many have better gas milage than cars. California is the laughing stock of the nation because of legislators getting away with regulating every aspect of a citizens life, but we all shudder when we see Californians bow in to another over-regulating law. Can’t even smoke a cigarette there. It used to be such a fun place to visit on vacation. What a shame! California Bikers - keep trying to regain the rights you lost! Some of you are heroes for sticking with it and fighting the good fight against politicians. Will the Hollister Motorcycle Rally be the 1st Annual Hollister “We Used to Demand Independence” Rally?
