1st Annual Patriots Day Rally and Liberty Ride
Please fly your flags proudly! No admission fee! All bikers welcome. Wake County Speedway on April 19th, between 10am and Noon. Speakers about liberty, freedom, honoring veterans and troops, and information about the new NC mandatory helmet law battles. Scenic liberty ride at 12 noon to downtown Raleigh, where there is a large Earth Day gathering. What you wear on the Freedom Ride is up to you. If you decide to ride lidless (or topless!), there are no guarantees you will not be ticketed. Party afterwards at the Iron Horse, 2901 Hwy 64, Apex. Recent Biker Rights News Briefs
February 16, 2008. Bikers USA
There is much going on lately. Here’s just a brief about some of the major stories.
The big news is that the biker community is getting attacked by US DOT Secretary Mary Peters who has sent legislation to the Senate President and Speaker of the House, in her ongoing attempts for helmet laws to sweep the nation. Biker rights activists are taking a variety of actions, such as calling her boss, the President, and calling and writing to US Senators and US House members.
California bikers contesting the CA helmet law had another court win. The California AG had filed a motion for summary judgement in the Richard Quigley et al v CHP case which would put an injunction against the California Highway Patrol so they would have to stop their current methods of helmet law enforcement.
NC Bikers are not understanding the new helmet laws which went into effect January 1, 2008. Meanwhile, BOLT of the Carolinas has been on the attack with protest actions, helmet statute repeal petitions, and plans which include Paul Revere Rides in various counties followed by a Patriots Day Rally and a circling of the legislative building on opening day.
Florida Bikers are being faced with a legislator trying to pass a bill that allows motorcycles to be confiscated (stolen).
Georgia Bikers who have custom bikes are now worried their gorgeous bikes are going to be $40,000 paperweights. The GA DMV refuses to title and register them in the wake of new EPA guidelines which just went into effect.
Oklahoma Bikers have a red light exception bill.
It appears AMA has had more problems with higher-ups in their organization. For those of you who don’t know, the AMA recently lost several key people. The new guy at the helm is characterized as acting like a typical heartless corporate CEO - you know, the kind with no soul whatsoever, no respect for the talented long-time employees, and very little commitment to biker heritage. The last round appears to be someone padding their expense vouchers, or something like that. Something tells me we are not hearing the entire story. Hey AMA, please fix your organizational problems quickly, we need you back in the fight.

Governors Highway Safety Program Attempts to Bias NC Judges against Bikers.

Terry didn’t know much about helmet laws, and never thought he’d get a ticket for wearing a helmet a cop disapproved of. After all, he is a law-abiding, responsible adult and knows how to dress himself without the help of government. So when he got a ticket, he checked into how we’ve been telling people to fight the helmet tickets rather than just pay the fines. The deeper he dug, the more he learned about how to fight a helmet ticket in court, and why it is necessary for the good of biker rights. Thanks to his excellent preparation before trial, perhaps the cops will have second thoughts the next time they consider enforcing a vague and unconstitutional helmet statute. Complain to the NHTSA about your poorly designed, defective Motorcycle Helmet!

For 40 years, bikers have complained about their helmets, but as of Halloween, 2007, there were only 20 official complaints going back to 1995 on file at the NHTSA. There are 500,000 helmets recalled and most are probably on our heads! Tell NHTSA to force helmet makers to make helmets they are willing to stand behind and are rated for 70 mph. Tell them to fix the recall system. If they made a better product, the government would not have to force people to wear these torture devices.

The NTSB has been helping the NHTSA. The NHTSA cannot use your taxes to lobby state legislators. They can only do such things as fund safety nazi organizations with your tax dollars. The NTSB is not so restricted, so they are suddenly telling everyone they are motorcycle safety experts, and have begun lobbying state highway safety organizations. State highway safety bureaus are being asked to force mandatory helmets compliant with FMVSS BS onto everyone who rides on a motorcycle. Some of these state highway safety bureaus are asking bikers to promote voluntary helmet use. No way! If you do this, your words will be used against us when push comes to shove. That is just the beginning, and they are not going to rest until everyone in the country is forced to wear helmets.
Bikers USA believes there have been deaths and serious injuries caused by helmets, and can substantiate this with medical studies. Bikers USA believes helmets do not prevent crashes but can contribute to them. Bikers USA knows that when a motorcycle does not have a windshield to deflect the wind, those huge helmets cause neck strain. Bikers USA also believes helmets can reduce heat dissipation resulting in hyperthermic brain damage. For years, many bikers have taken a relaxed position about helmets forced onto our heads, and have have been wimpy by promoting voluntary compliance. Some SMRO’s get funded by the NHTSA via state safety bureaus, so they do this even if it causes problems with biker rights.
The reward for promoting voluntary compliance has been an increased government pressure to force helmets on everyone. Therefore, recent government action has inspired us to step up our resistance by protesting loudly against this bullsh!t. We will not promote voluntary compliance slogans supported by the bureaucrats. We will go in the exact opposite direction, with slogans such as:

HELMETS ARE TORTURE DEVICES.
DOT = Death, Oppression, Torture

NC Law Enforcement have begun ticketing for what they believe to be helmet statute violations, in different counties across the state. In most cases, they don’t have a leg to stand on in court. If you pay the fine, you are only helping them! Everyone must fight the helmet tickets in court or your freedoms may be forever lost. The court cases should be easily won! This is harassment. Are you going to wimp out and help the state put an end to your rights or are you a biker?

1st Annual East Coast Helmet Law Protest! May 20, 2007

When: Last Sunday of Myrtle Beach Bike Week, every year:
Location: South of the Border, I-95 and US 301/501 Dillon, SC
On your way back from Myrtle Beach Bike Week, enjoy a freedom ride in protest of mandatory motorcycle helmet laws! Of course, you CAN wear a helmet. This protest is for the riders right to decide. This ride is not organized, sponsored, by anyone except other bikers.
PLEASE - It is absolutely crucial that you ride sober, responsibly, and safely.
Suggested Minimum Age: 21,
Suggested minimum riding experience: 3 years.
Begin lining up at 10am. Ride briefing at 10:45. Kickstands up at 11am.
Be advised that there are mandatory helmet laws in most of the states north of South Carolina, and there is a high likelihood of being pulled over and ticketed. If you are ticketed, it is up to you to decide whether to help the states by paying the fines, or become a freedom fighter by arguing it in court.

NHTSA releases FARS Data which states motorcycle fatalities and registrations have increased but total milage has decreased. MRF claims data is not accurate and questions why NHTSA would release data and publish recommendations based on known inaccuracies. April 21, 2005.

We all know this is too true. So do many of our dead or badly injured brothers and sisters. Motorcyclists Against Dumb Drivers has proposed a letter writing campaign to Governors of all 50 states. You should check it out.

Speedtraps: I found these links. One is for the National Motorist Organization, NMA, and the other is speedtraps. It’s a good thing to check for speedtraps when planning trips. In South Carolina, avoid the sleazy little speedtrap town of Dillon. Also, in SC, they ticket Ape Hangers and straight pipe with no baffles. How the heck they continue to have a good turnout at the Myrtle Beach Bikeweek must be predicate on the helmet laws and decent climate, because it isn’t because of crap little towns like Dillon.

Different Justice when Cage Drivers kill motorcyclists: Jay Jarman was killed 5/17/03, when his motorcycle was hit by a Mustang in Myrtle Beach, SC. The driver and owner of the cage fled the scene and went home to West Virginia. Later, the injustice system just slapped them on the wrist. Visit the Jarman families web site to learn more.

Which is the public burden?

Have you ever tried to have a discussion about motorcycle helmet laws with someone who drives an SUV or light truck and says that motorcyclists who don’t wear helmets are a public burden? Do you know that one of the biggest reasons for an increase in motorcycle fatalities is the increased popularity of SUV’s and light trucks? THEY ARE THE PUBLIC BURDEN. Think about it. You hit someone with your motorcycle, versus a cager hitting someone with their SUV. Consider their fuel economy. Consider their environmental impact.
